The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was lovely. Great for stepping out the door to do big hikes in the Buttermere fells and then returning to comfort. The staff were friendly and helpful.
This Lakeland slate house is 0.5 miles above Buttermere village, and ideal for the famous Haystacks walk. YHA Buttermere has a bar/restaurant with views of the Red Pike and High Stile mountains.

Best hostel kitchen I've ever seen, and just £2.5 to do a large load of laundry

Able to park in the hotel's own car park. Had a room in the annexe but that wasn't an issue. Room was spotless and bed was comfy, all you would expect from bed and breakfast. Only there for one night but would certainly book again or recommend it.
In the Borrowdale valley, this charming hotel has traditional rooms, and is surrounded by picturesque Lake District scenery. Free Wi-Fi is provided, as well as free private parking.

Getting here was already promising, then arriving and parking confirmed that we made the right choice for a hotel near Keswick. The hotel is situated in an idyllic area, surrounded by green hills and very quiet as it is just a bit off the main road. We had a lovely greeting before being shown to our room and were even given tips for late-evening walks. Breakfast and dinner were both exquisite, far exceeding our expectations.
All in all, we could not have wished for a quieter, better equipped, or prettier hotel for our 3-day Lake District trip.
Set in 2 acres of tranquil wooded gardens. The charming rooms have TVs and tea and coffee facilities, and many have breathtaking views of the valley and fells.

Brilliant location in the heart of the Lake District
If you’re pondering this place at all, DO IT! It’s the most beautiful setting. Recently updated, it’s impeccably clean. The view from our room was something from a movie! The staff is friendly, the restaurant delicious, the made to order breakfast is included, and they even offer a snack box for you for later. We enjoyed our stay so much, our only regret is that it was just a brief stop on a road trip.
Fellow Americans, our only warning is the drive in, the road is rather precarious. Didn’t seem to bother the locals but it’s down to one lane and curvy and overall a bit nerve racking. I wouldn’t put that here as a negative toward the hotel as it has nothing to do with them but just a warning!

Beautiful location, fabulous breakfast we also had an evening meal here which was also excellent, the staff in all areas are absolutely fabulous can’t do enough for you, room very clean & spacious but for price should have put water in room, could have provided little extras such as fridge, tissues, wine glasses, bit pricey for what we got per night but felt that was due to location

Beautiful little village with stunning views and lots of walks for different abilities. A pub, a hotel and a tea room for eating out. No shop to buy essentials and nearest shop a decent drive away so would recommend bringing food with you.

Stunning scenery, walks to suit all, whether you want a nice easy walk or a tough climb, and you might get to see the elusive Red Squirrel, we caught site of one while having breakfast in the Hotel.
A walk around the lake is a must, pretty flat path all the way round suitable for all, young and old to view the majesty of the surrounding peaks and the beauty of the valley, or a walk up Haystack or High Stile for the more experienced/fitter hikers, for those amazing views.
Superb location, lovely room with comfy bed; slept like a log! STAFF are the highlight of this hotel. Reception, housekeeping ( everything left spotless every day), lovely Pure Lakes toiletries, excellent service from bar and restaurant staff, lovely residents' lounge; a haven of peace as Buttermere was so busy.
Food was excellent though I found the portions a bit large as I'm getting older and don't walk as far or as high as I used to; 10 years ago I'd have wolfed the lot!
The hotel is located in THE MOST BEAUTIFUL setting! Honestly breathtaking.
We attended for a wedding nearby and our stay was comfortable and the staff were all so lovely and warm!
The only downfall I would mention is that the postcode doesn’t take you directly to the hotel and you have to really keep your eyes peeled.
Never the less, we will be looking to return with the children next time.
Thanks again for a restful weekend 😌
Couldn’t fault this hotel. It’s in a stunning location and has a great beer garden where you can soak up the scenery while enjoying a pint and a meal. The food was delicious and the staff couldn’t have been more lovely. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and very quiet. As well an amazing cooked breakfast the next day they also gave us snack boxes to take for our onward journey which was a lovely touch. Highly recommend.
Absolutely fantastic location next to Buttermere and Crummock lake . We had a standard dog friendly room with a fabulous view and after a days walking we just sat there admiring the view from the window . That was after a lovely evening meal. The staff were fantastic especially the young lady who served us a great breakfast, she was probably the most polite person I’d ever met.
Staff extremely friendly and offered me directions for my planned walking routes the next day. Big building with self catering facilities, plenty of loos and showers.
Food (dinner and breakfast) was very nice and in line with other YHA hostels I’ve stayed at.
Big spacious lounge with superb views. Good location for hiking.
Lovely hotel with delightful elegantly furnished room. Clean bathroom with good shower. Very pleasant helpful staff. Excellent full English breakfast. The bar area has character, good ales and decent evening meals.
Great value "Muddy Boots" midweek deal. Wifi was good. Plenty of free car parking. Great walks from front door
Buttermere YHA is a traditional youth hostel and ideal for those who love the spectacular scenery and proximity of the fells and lakes. I particularly like the fact that is always attracts people with a genuine appreciation of the area and love of walking.
All the staff were friendly and helpful.
This was my 40th wedding anniversary. We stayed at the Bridge Hotel on our honeymoon. The hotel has been modernized but the front entrance looks the same. It has a special place in our hearts.
Food was great. The bathroom and room renovations are really wonderful. It was well worth the return trip.
The location is iidillic. The hotel is lovely and very pet friendly. The staff in the hotel and bar were so welcoming and couldn't do enough for us or the dogs. Breakfast was lovely to and the complimentary snack box was a great touch
Beautiful location in Buttermere.
Lovely atmosphere in hotel, staff friendly.
Room very comfortable and nicely furnished.
No tv but didn’t need one.
Food excellent and great to be able to have bar meal in evening outside in the sun.
We both loved breakfast . Was great selection, we could make a bit mix and match not just what's on menu card .all hotel staff truly amazing and think that's made our stay really enjoyable
Lovely staff. Great choice of breakfast. Having reserved parking space at Buttermere is great as parking is an issue even on a rainy Sunday in September.
